For just about all of our baking recipes, we love to use Granny Smith Apples. They are nice and firm, keep their shape when baked and aren’t too sweet. Other apples that you could use in this recipe are Honeycrisp, Braeburn or Jonagold.
Do You Have To Use Yellow Cake Mix?
We like using Yellow Cake Mix for this recipe. But you could substitute with White, Vanilla or Spice Cake Mix.
Can You Make Apple Pie Cake Ahead Of Time?
Absolutely. Actually, I made this cake yesterday and I just had a piece a little while ago as a dessert after lunch (hey, why not?!?!). I swear it tasted even better today than it did yesterday. I just put it in the microwave for about 15 seconds and it was marvelous.
Can You Use Store Bought Apple Pie Filling?
We make our own Apple Pie Filling for this recipe. But if you want to cut a corner to make this recipe even easier, you can use a can of apple pie filling!
Storing Apple Pie Cake
You can either keep this in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap at room temperature or in the refrigerator. It should be good for 3-5 days. You may get a little more out of it if you keep it in the fridge.
You can freeze apple pie cake. Let it cool down completely. I’d cut it into individual servings before freezing unless you know you’ll be serving it all at once when you need it. Wrap it in freezer wrap and be sure to label it and put the date on it. It will be good for up to 3 months.
I hope you enjoy this apple pie cake recipe! It is seriously my new favorite Fall Dessert or Thanksgiving Recipe. I’m absolutely going to bring his one to share with friends and family this year. It tastes delicious warmed up a little bit with some vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Thanks for reading!
