These Arkansas Green Beans have just about all of my favorite things in one side dish! Bacon, Brown Sugar, Garlic, Butter and Soy Sauce are all baked into these Green Beans for a dish that is seriously addictive!
Bacon Makes Everything Better
In my time here on Earth, I’ve learned a couple of hard truths. One of them is that bacon will always make everything better. If it’s something you don’t really like? Add bacon, you’ll like it. If it’s something you already love, add bacon, you’ll love it more.
Here at Bubba Pie, we are all about simple and tasty comfort food. And one simple way to make food tasty is: BACON! But when you add Garlic, Butter and Sugar into the equation, watch out taste buds! All those ingredients add up to a great flavor worthy of wowing your guest at your next potluck!
Arkansas Green Beans
So, why do they call them Arkansas Green Beans? I have absolutely no idea. I looked for a bit on the web to find this answer but then it occurred to me that I don’t really care. A tasty dish is a tasty dish. For sure, this side dish recipe has it’s roots in the south. Roasted veggies with bacon, butter and garlic and nestled in a baking dish? Yep, that is pure Southern Soul Food right there!
So, ready to make some Arkansas Green Beans? For step-by-step instructions, check out the printable recipe card below. But here is what you’ll need to get started:
Arkansas Green Beans Ingredients
- 4 cans of 15 ounce green beans, drained
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 pieces of bacon, fried and chopped
- salt and black pepper – to taste
Can You Use Fresh or Frozen Green Beans For This Recipe?
Yes you can. You’ll want to make sure you steam your frozen green beans until they are tender. You can do this in the microwave if you want. If you’re using fresh green beans, you’ll need to trim them and then you can either boil or steam them until they become tender.
Can You Freeze This Recipe?
Technically, yes. You can wait until the Arkansas Green Beans cool down and wrap the dish tightly with aluminum foil or freezer wrap. It should keep in your freezer for up to 3 months. Green Beans, unfortunately, do not reheat very well. Your dish may be fairly soggy when you reheat it.
Other Notes For Arkansas Green Beans
- BACON- It seems like everyone has their own method of cooking bacon. Fry it in a frying pan on the stove top, bake it in the oven…. Whatever way you choose to cook it is fine. Just don’t get it too crispy, you’ll be putting them on top of the green beans and baking it for about 30 minutes more.

Green beans are so delicious I can’t imagine anyone putting brown sugar in them. Love the bacon though.

So, just because you “can’t imagine” brown sugar in a recipe that you haven’t even tried you feel justified giving it a one star rating? Shame on you! At least try it as is or leave out the brown sugar before you decide to bash it.

Sounds delish! I just have one question. What size casserole dish? 9X13, 8X11,9X9?
Thanks,
