Ingredients

  • 1 lb extra lean ground beef
  • 1 medium head of cabbage. Chopped and core removed.
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup white rice
  • 2 cans Italian style diced tomatoes (tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano)
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • chopped fresh parsley optional for serving

Instructions

  • In a large stock pot, add beef, onion and garlic and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until beef is no longer pink and onions are tender.

  • Add carrots, and tomatoes. Mix well.

  • Add rice, tomatoes and broth.

  • Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and spices. Mix well and heat over medium high heat until boiling.

  • Once boiling, cover and reduce heat to simmer.
