– 16 ounces rigatoni, prepared – 1 pound ground spicy Italian sausage – 1 small onion, chopped – 4 cloves garlic, minced – 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce – 1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes – 1 6-ounce can tomato paste – 1 tablespoon sugar – 1 teaspoon dried basil – 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning – 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
1. Brown the Italian sausage in a large skillet with the onion and garlic. 2. When the meat is cooked through, drain excess grease. Add the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine. 3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. 4. When ready to serve, add the prepared pasta and stir to coat in the sauce.
